John Hudgens serves as Chief Risk Officer of Texas Capital Bancshares, Inc. together with its subsidiaries and affiliated interests – primarily Texas Capital Bank, N.A. Hudgens is responsible for construction and supervision of a system of corporate governance appropriate to the Company’s size and complexity and in conformance with regulatory expectations. Hudgens serves as chair of the Risk Management Committee, the Company’s Tier I risk committee overseeing the integration of risk management in the organization through the enterprise risk management process. The CRO brings a particularly risk-focused viewpoint to strategic planning and other activities of Management and is responsible for identifying developing risks, concentrations, and other situations that require remediation and/or study through stress testing and other techniques.
Hudgens is charged with oversight of two primary risk management functions – Credit Delivery and Risk Administration. Credit Delivery, under the direct oversight of the Chief Credit Officer, includes credit underwriting, loan approval, credit monitoring, problem loan administration and other ancillary functions. Risk Administration is further divided into four reporting segments each directed by a senior manager. Credit Administration includes policy development and implementation, ALLL functions, concentration management and reporting of credit metrics. Stress Testing and Capital Analytics includes DFAST submissions together with capital and liquidity stress testing for strategic planning and budgeting. Risk Administration includes ERM functions and operational risk management, compliance management, model risk management, in-house legal, deposit/treasury/counterparty risk, plus risk appetite development and risk tolerance definition and monitoring. Corporate Security manages physical security and fraud investigations.
Hudgens joined the Bank in 1999 as Chief Credit Officer after having started his banking career 20 years earlier in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. His experience includes management roles in credit administration, corporate and correspondent banking, commercial credit underwriting, and problem loan administration.
Hudgens holds a master’s of business administration in finance and accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in the business school’s honors program. He also graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.
